Background
Our full story
Shalom Junior Trust School began its journey in late December 2009 when founders Joel and his wife left the comfort of urban life to settle in Nakigalala village, 5km off the Kampala–Entebbe Highway. It was a period of great uncertainty — no electricity, no running water, and impassable roads.
One day while cultivating in the village, Joel heard a voice inside him calling him to start a school. With only 1,000 Ugandan shillings — less than one US dollar — and a converted chicken coop as a classroom, Shalom Junior Academy opened its doors in February 2010 with 45 children enrolled in the first week.
In 2018, the school was renamed Shalom Junior Trust School as required by the Ministry of Education. Today it stands as a model teaching and learning centre, serving the children of Nakigalala Zone A and beyond.
